A good definition of “sustainable” is thoughtful, caring, responsible, and economical stewardship of our natural resources, as well as financial and human resources. The Precautionary Principle often is invoked to stop activities today that might undermine sustainability sometime in the future.
But the principle has many shortcomings that should bar its application to the climate change debate.
