Heartland Institute Media Policy

The Heartland Institute grants media passes to select events to print journalists (newspapers, magazine), broadcast journalists (radio or television), wire and news services for redistribution to other news organizations, or online news services (electronic dissemination rather than conventional print and broadcast distribution).

The Heartland Institute does not allow journalists to register as media for the purpose of writing a personal blog, or for persons whose news outlet is funded by an individual; political candidate or party; nonprofit; or activist/lobbying organization.

Even if payment is made to attend an The Heartland Institute meeting, the following terms and conditions still apply.

Terms and Conditions for Use of Media Credentials
at the Tenth International Conference on Climate Change (#ICCC10)

  • Media credentials issued by The Heartland Institute must be visible at all times at ICCC10, and are not transferable.
  • Plenary sessions and workshops are open to members of the media. (NOTE: Our conference is fully booked, so no media may sit at the tables during plenary meal sessions. Our Media Center, in a room close to the Grand Ballroom, will feature a live-stream of the proceedings to ensure you will have full coverage.)
  • Credentialed media may not solicit, advocate, rally, or collect signatures on behalf of a personal, institutional, or political cause. Credentialed media must also not issue any literature of any kind, other than a business card. Anyone with a media pass who violates this provision is subject to revocation of their credential and expulsion from ICCC10.
  • All requests to record or videotape this Heartland Institute meeting or function for the purpose of rebroadcasting must be made and approved through the communications office of The Heartland Institute (
  • All publications presented at ICCC10 — including PDFs — are the property of The Heartland Institute and may not be reproduced, uploaded or distributed without the written consent of the public affairs team at The Heartland Institute. Email to obtain that written permission.
  • All PowerPoint presentations shown at ICCC10 are the creation and property of the presenter of that PowerPoint presentation. To obtain permission to reproduce and distribute any images or text from those presentations, contact to obtain written permission.
  • The Heartland Institute has the right to remove individuals from a meeting or function who do not abide by the above terms and conditions.
